Sukhamvit Road, Bangkok

So it turns out that May isn’t the best time to visit Bangkok – it was crazy hot, reaching 40 degrees most days with 80% humidity (hello frizzy hair!). We’ve been to Bangkok before and seen the sights, so all we wanted to do was enjoy being back in one of our favourite cities and try not to melt.

We stayed in an Airbnb apartment on Sukhamvit 45, an area that we hadn’t explored before but turned out to be the perfect location for us on this trip. It’s an upscale residential area popular with expats that’s full of hip restaurants and cafes, all with our beloved air conditioning! As with everywhere else in Bangkok, the main road is lined with local street food, and there is also a great night market on Sukhamvit 38.

The area is known as Little Japan and it’s filled with cheap ramen restaurants and not-so-cheap sushi places and boutiques.

Possibly our favourite discovery in the area was the Japanese bakery Custard Nakamora. As well as the usual bakery staples, they also have yakitori buns, matcha cream pastries and yakisoba sandwiches (yep, that’s noodles in a sandwich!)

Another of our favourite spots was Roast, in Thong Lo. The menu is extensive, in fact it’s actually a little newspaper, and the eggs Florentine were perfect. The best part of the meal was the iced coffee, which comes with frozen cubes of espresso and a little milk bottle. The coffee gets stronger as the espresso cubes melt.

On our last night in Bangkok we felt like a treat and went to the top of the nearby Marriott Hotel. The views were stunning, go around 5:30pm to get a table right by the edge to catch the day and night time views.
